A Ridiculous Recap Of Chrono Trigger

quot;Chrono Triggerquot; is sometimes consideredthe best RPG ever made. But, is it really an RPGéAfter studying the subject for a DECADE,I have actually realized that. Yes. Yes it is.Not the result I wanted. (as the viewer)quot;Kilian, two tutorials ago you said all Japanese gamesare bad, but here you are, praising Chrono Trigger. You can't just stop being cinephobic.quot; Okay, let me explain.quot;Chrono Triggerquot; was conceived by Akira Toriyama, creator of quot;Dragon Ball Z: Abridgedquot;, Yuji Horii, creator of, uh. quot;Chrono Triggerquot;, andSakaguchi, creator of millions of weeaboos. They came up with the idea while studyingcomputer graphics in the United States.

That means that Chrono Trigger was born on U.S. soil. That makes it an American citizen. They developed this 15hourlonggame that feels like 40 hours. Usually that's considered a bad thing, but here it's. not considered a good thing. but it's considered a thing. The game starts with the main character,Chrono Trigger, waking up. You know he is the protagonist, because he has spiky red hair. There is a fair in town to celebrate the year 1000, butthey celebrate the new year. in summertimeé! Silly fantasy countries.

At the fair, Chrono runs into this girl named Marle, then, she decides to spend time with Chrono, which tells us that Chrono is attractive. Then they do normal fair stuff, like fighting robots. Lucca, Chrono's best friend, has invented ateleportation device. Marle decides to try it out. But the machine reacts to the metal necklace, and sends her back in time. That's why when you are at the airport, they askyou to take off all your metals before yougo through those. quot;Terrorist Scannersquot;. Too much iron, and you can end up in ancient Rome. Chrono goes after her and travels backfour hundred years. but because the planethas moved quite a lot since then. he ends up in a vacuum and dies.

Fortunately, there is a guy in the Middle Ages wholooks exactly like him, and noone will know, because he is a silent protagonist. So, Marle was actually the Princess, Nadia, and when she ended up here, everyone mistookher for a kidnapped Queen. Even though she is like ten years younger. Let's be honest here. The King knows. The King doesn't care. But, because they stopped searching for the real Queen, she dies, and Marle disappears. Kinda like that movie from the 80's,starring Michael Nope. Not doing it. We go to the Church and meet Frog.Noone cares he's a frog.

People probably didn't even notice, they were pretty ugly back in the Middle Ages. I mean, whwhat am I looking at hereéIs that even a humané The Queen was kidnapped by a yellow mole. Yay~ we did it! The queen is back, Marle is back, and by now you probably want me to explain how Chrono supposedly died, but what about all the other peopleé But I'm not gonna do that, becauseI wrote myself into a corner. Back in the year 1000, Crono is arrested for kidnapping the Princess, and dragged to court.

(as the Chancellor)quot;Your honor, we believe Mr. Trigger kidnapped herto cut off her ears, and create a necklace.quot; quot;We don't have any proof, other than the fact that he picked up her necklace before he picked up her.quot; Everyone agrees, and Crono is now in jail. But right before he gets to end his miserable existence. he gets saved by Lucca, who has finally snapped, and is going on a killing spree, but is using thisrescue as an excuse. They kill a bunch of underpaid governmentworkers, and a robot dragon. Then, they actually kidnap the Princess, and travel to the future. You idiot. If you are escaping from someone, travel to the PAST. Now, all they have to do is wait.

Chrono Trigger Review and Analysis

In the second half 2008, I found myself inwhat has proven to be the most uncertain time of my life. The economy had just fallen intoa deep recession, and it became so difficult to find work where I lived that I was forcedto move out of state to find a job. I lived with my grandparents while I saved as muchas I could for college, but I knew that doing so was a futile effort, and I wasn't willingto spend the rest of my life under the burden of crushing debt. With voices mounting aroundme, urging me to forsake my ambitions and pursue a more traditional career path, andunder the stress of 65+ hour work weeks between two jobs, sometimes I felt like my only reprievefrom the anxiety and the doubt that I felt was

my Nintendo DS. Fortunately, in November ofthat year, Chrono Trigger was rereleased on that system, and it could not have comeinto my life at a more perfect time. Just as I began seriously contemplating abandoningmy most passionate aspirations, this game inspired me in a way that nothing has beforeor since. It's because of this game that I moved forward with what I felt inspiredto do, rather than what felt was “safe. It's one of the most brilliantly structured, innovative, and passionately crafted tutorial games I've ever played, and I'd like toshare with you some of the reasons why it's considered to be one of the greatest gamesof all time.

I find it fascinating that Chrono Triggerwas actually envisioned collaboratively between three unlikely giants in the industry. In1992, during a trip to the United States to conduct research on computer graphics, Hironobu Sakaguchi travelled alongside Yuji Horii, the director and creator of the Dragon Quest series, andAkira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball. As they traveled, I'm sure they shared variousideas they had in mind for games they would like to create, and these discussions resultedin the decision to create a game together, one that, as Sakaguchi said specifically atthe VJump Festival in 1994, “.no one had done before.

The difficulties in organizing such a collaborationproved to be extremely rigorous though, to the point where it began to look as if gettingthe game into development wouldn't be possible. Luckily, Square producer Kazuhiko Aoki steppedin and took it upon himself to make sure the project moved forward, and with his supervisionthe details began to fall into place. A team between 50 and 60 people was then assembledto commence with development for the game, one of which included scenario writer MasatoKato; who had worked previously with Tecmo on the Ninja Gaiden series, and would go onto write the stories for Radical Dreamers, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and even parts ofFinal Fantasy VII. With an early draft by

Horii in hand, Kato was assigned to writeand plan the story, and development officially began in 1993. Early in development, a large majority ofthe team was assembled into meetings where ideas for what kind of game they should makewere discussed openly. Masato Kato has expressed pretty candidly how much he hated this, andobviously felt that trying to be inclusive of so many different ideas was detrimental to getting the project off its feet. During one of these early meetings, though, the inclusion of time travel was suggested, which was at first strongly opposed by Kato, fearing itwould lead to boring and repetitious gameplay

mechanics. As these meetings progressed however,it seems the team eventually won him over. The game was placed under the working title “MaruIsland, and was originally meant to become part of the Secret of Mana franchise. It was also planned to be released on the Super Famicom Disk Drive, but when negotiationsbetween Sony and Nintendo fell through the and SNESCD was cancelled, it caused a lot ofproblems for the ambitious, expansive rpgs Square had in the works. With developmentbeing reoriented to accommodate cartridges, memory storage limitations became a majorissue, and Hiromichi Tanaka the producer and director on Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu3 respectively was quoted as saying, “Once
