1 Thessalonians 5 Bible Study on the Tribulation Rapture and End Times
1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse number 1,the Bible reads, quot; But of the times and the seasons brethren, you have no need that Iwrite unto you, for yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thiefin the night.quot; When we look at this verse, it's obvious that we're continuing somethingthat was just being spoken, because it says, quot; But at the times and the seasons brethren, you have no need that I write unto you, quot; and the obvious question is, the times and theseasons of whaté What are we talking abouté If you remember, we just finished up in 1Thessalonians chapter 4 with the run down of Jesus Christ coming in the clouds and allthe believers being caught up together in
the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, whatis commonly known as the rapture. In fact 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 is the most famousrapture passage that people would point to as being they clearest description of thetrumpet sounding, quot; The dead in Christ rise first, and we which are alive and remain shallbe caught up together with them in the clouds.quot; Look at the end of verse 17 there. quot;To meetthe Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort one anotherwith these words, but .quot; You see that at the beginning of chapter five. That's whatwe're connected to. quot;Comfort one another with these words, but of the time and the seasonsbrethren, you have no need that I write unto
you.quot; So, the times and the seasons of whaté The times and the seasons of when the rapturewill take place. The times and the seasons of Jesus Christ coming in the clouds and thetrumpet sounding. He says, quot;Of the times and the seasons brethren, you have no need thatI write unto you, for yourself know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thiefof the night.quot; This sentence only makes sense if the day of the Lord and the rapture areboth happening at the same time. If those two things had different timing, then thiswould make absolutely no sense for God to say, quot; Here's what's going to happen at therapture, but of the times and the seasons
brethren, you have no need that in write untoyou, because let me tell you about a totally unrelated event and when it's going to happen.quot; That wouldn't really make any sense, would itéObviously this is a continuation. He describes rapture, and here's the thing. In chapter4, there is no discussion of the timing, because it's all just a discussion of where your departedloved ones are, and how they are going to be brought with Christ, and how we're goingto be caught up together with them. There's no timing given. In Chapter 5, he gets intothe timing and he says, quot; You don't need me to write it to you, because you already knowthe timing.quot; You already know that the day
of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.Verse three, quot; For when .quot; When has to do with the timing, quot;when they shall say peaceand safety then sudden destruction cometh upon them as travail upon a woman with childand they shall not escape, but you brethren are not in darkness that that day should overtakeyou as a thief.quot; So, this day is clearly bad for some peopleand good for others. For those that are not saved, he said it's going to come upon themas a thief in the night, and it's going to be sudden destruction coming upon them, buthe says unto us, we're not in darkness that that day should overtake us as a thief. So,Christ is not coming as a thief in the night
to those that are saved. He is coming as athief in the night to the unsaved. Notice when he says here, that that day should overtakeyou as a thief. Notice, he doesn't say, quot; You're not even going to be here for that day, you'realready going to be gone.quot; He doesn't say that, does heé No. He just says, it's notgoing to take you as a thief because you are of the light. You are awake. You see thiscoming, and we'll get in to that a little bit later, but what I want to point out hereis that the timing of the rapture is the same timing as the timing of the day of the Lord, and the day of the Lord is a major event that the Bible talks a lot about in both the OldTestament and the New Testament.
Is a Secret Rapture Biblical
Millions believe in a secret rapture, whenJesus will unexpectedly take Christians to heaven. Is this what the Bible teachesé Goddoes promise protection. But whereé On Earth—or in heavené And can we knowéCivilization is on a collision course with unprecedented world trouble. Global problemswill soon grow much worse, and culminate in the prophesied Great Tribulation, followedby the Day of the Lord—and concluding with Christ's Return. Horrific prophecies willsoon be fulfilled. Great numbers will perish. Some will be spared—but whoéThe masses are blissfully unaware of—and therefore unprepared for—any of what iscoming. This includes most who think they
are. You can be an exception! What does God expect of His servantsé All who care had better know. The World to Come. The Restored Church ofGod presents David C. Pack. Author of 80 books and booklets. Editorinchief of The RealTruth magazine. Read by countless and growing numbers in every nation and territory of theworld. In a violent age full of bad news. Answering life's greatest questions straightfrom the Bible, and announcing the wonderful good news of the World to Come. And now, DavidC. Pack. According to fundamentalist Christians, arapture is coming. “Believersâ€—those
who have “accepted Jesus—are scheduledto be whisked away without notice—no matter where they are or what they are doing. All“unbelievers will be left behind to suffer under the antichrist, and through the supposedsevenyear Tribulation—when war, disease, famine and religious deception explode worldwide. These missed being “vacuumed to the safety of heaven at Christ's secret coming. Theantichrist will permit the Jews to build another temple in Jerusalem, which he will attackand destroy three and a half years later. Recognize there are two major competing positionsamong rapturists. It occurs before, or in the middle of, the seven years. But the suddendisappearance of millions, it is said, will
“shock the world. After the Tribulation,Christ returns—this being His visible, and, in effect, third, coming—and defeats theantichrist and his army. This future worldwide vanishing act has generatedmovies, books and even board games about its aftermath! One group created a “RaptureIndex it terms a “Dow Jones Industrial Average of endtime activity and a “propheticspeedometer. Supposedly, by calculating world conditions, the index closely forecastsChrist's Return. “The higher the number, the group's website states, “the fasterwe're moving towards the occurrence of pretribulation rapture.Another group has prepared a “postrapture
email to automatically be sent to family andfriends. Great numbers of sincere people have beencaptured by this idea! Have you placed your hope in this belief without Bible prooféMuch is at stake. In fact, your life depends on it!So then, we ask: Will Christ come one or two more timeséWhile many believe a rapture has always been the Bible teaching, this idea was unknownbefore the 16th century. Some important history: During the 15th and16th centuries, reformers John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, Martin Luther and John Huss campaignedagainst the dominance of the Catholic Church.
These men shook Catholic theology to its core—evencalling that church the antichrist! Previously, Rome would have forced its beliefs and traditionson those who disagreed. However, support for the reformers quickly mounted. This publiclyundermined Catholic authority. Rome called for reconciliation, and convenedthe Council of Trent in 1545. From this council sprang the “counterreformation teachingsof three Jesuit priests—Francisco Ribera, Luis de Alcazar and Cardinal Bellarmine.Ribera followed with a commentary on the book of Revelation. To dispel the church's labelof antichrist, he created the belief of futurism. This declared that the prophecies of Revelationonly applied to the last seven years preceding
