Now Revelation 17, verse 1, the Bible readsquot; And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, sayingunto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sittethupon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and theinhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carriedme away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colouredbeast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.quot; Now, we just finishedup with the seven vials of God's wrath in chapter 16, and now we're going to see thejudgment upon Babylon. Now that judgment is
actually going to be carried out in chapter18, but in chapter 17, we're just seeing the details of who the whore is and other detailsabout that. Now if you would, go to chapter 21. I want you to put your finger in chapter17, and flip over to chapter 21. Because it's interesting when you look at the first threeverses of chapter 17, and compare them to chapter 21, verses 9 and 10, you will seethat they're worded almost exactly the same. And so there is a great contrast that we candraw here, to help us understand who the great whore of Revelation 17 is. It says in Revelation21:9, quot; And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of theseven last plaguesquot;. And that's pretty much
what it said in chapter 17. And it says that(he) quot;talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me thatgreat city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from Godquot;. So in chapter 17,the one that came and talked with him, was one of the seven angels that had the sevenvials. They said the exact same thing quot;come hither, I will shew unto theequot;. The differenceis in chapter 21, he says quot;I am going to shew thee the Lamb's wifequot;. Chapter 17 he saidquot;I am going to shew thee the judgment of the great whore.quot; And then in chapter 17, verse3 it says quot;he carried me away in the spirit
into the wilderness: and I saw a woman situpon a scarlet coloured beastquot;. In chapter 21, verse 10, it says quot;he carried me awayin the spirit to a great and high mountain.quot; So you can see there is a very strong connectionbetween these two viewings, where John is showed basically, a woman in both cases. Obviouslythis is symbolic, but in one case he is shown a great WHORE, and in the other case he isshown a BRIDE. Now, these are two contrary things. These are two opposite things. Whenwe think of a bride in a white wedding dress, and we think of a whore, you are thinkingof two things that really couldn't be any more different. One is a legitimate partner. One is a legitimate life companion. The other
is something that God has told us to fleefrom. He said quot;flee fornicationquot;. To not be a whoremonger. So what does this representéWell, if we can understand who the BRIDE represents, that'll help us understand who the WHORE represents.Flip over if you would to Revelation 21. And let's see who the bride represents. It saidin verse 10, quot;he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed methat great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from Godquot;, and then if we godown to verse 24 for sake of time, it says quot; And the nations of them which are saved shallwalk in the light of itquot;, saying that they're going to walk in the light of the city. quot;Andthe kings of the earth do bring their glory
and honour into it.quot; Now if you would, flipover to Revelation 19. So in Revelation 21, when he is shown the bride, he is shown thegreat city, the heavenly Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God. And it says of thatcity, that the nations of them which are SAVED, shall walk in the light of it. Look at Revelation19, verse 7. It says quot;Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage ofthe Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.quot; So here we have the bride again, orthe wife. And it says quot; And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness ofquot;, of whoé Of saints. So inRevelation 19, we see that the Lamb's wife

Now in Revelation chapter 18, we read aboutthe destruction of Babylon. The Bible reads in verse number 1, quot; And after these thingsI saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightenedwith his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the greatis fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine ofthe wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication withher, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.quot; So in this chapter, we read about the destruction
of Babylon. But first of all, I want to establish, who is Babylon. What is God talking about when he talks about Babylon being destroyed.Well the first thing I want to point out, and if you would turn to 1st Peter chapter5. The first thing I would like to point out is the actual literal city of Babylonno longer exists. And not only that, but even at the time of Christ, and even at the timeof 1st Peter being written, and even at the time of the book or Revelation being written, the city of Babylon no longer existed. That is because the Old Testament story recordshow Nebechudnezzar, the king of Babylon conquered the civilised world and had this worldwideempire, BUT, that empire was judged by God.
And it was prophesied in Jeremiah 50 and 51,that Babylon would be destroyed. And the Bible prophesied that Babylon would be destroyedand that it would never be inhabited. I'll just read it for you quickly while you'returning to 1st Peter 5. quot; Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beastsof the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell thereinquot;, talking about birdsdwelling there. And it says quot;and it shall be NO MORE INHABITED FOR EVER; neither shallit be dwelt in from generation to generation. As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and theneighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shallany son of man dwell therein.quot; So when Babylon
was destroyed in the Old Testament, God saidthat it would not be inhabited again, it would not be rebuilt. And to this day, that cityno longer exists. So when the Bible is talking about quot;Babylonquot;, it is not talking about theliteral city of Babylon from the Old Testament. Some have said quot;well, it IS the literal cityof Babylon, they're going to rebuild itquot;. And I've even seen different emails sent out, even going back to when I was a kid, they would say quot;they're about to rebuild Babylon! The Bible is going to be fulfilled! They have all the building materials.quot; And I've seenphotographs of all these materials stockpiled that they're supposedly going to rebuild Babylonwith. But the Bible said that it was NOT going
to be inhabited again. And it's already beendestroyed. I don't believe it's going to be rebuilt. But second of all, God is alreadyin the Bible referring to a different city as quot;Babylonquot; in 1st Peter chapter 5. Becauseif somebody said quot;well, before the endtimes come, the city of Babylon is going to be rebuilt.quot; But wait a minute, in 1st Peter, he is already referring to another city as Babylon, andthe city still hasn't been built thousands of years after 1st Peter was written. Lookat this in 1st Peter chapter 5:13. The Bible reads quot; The church that is at Babylon, electedtogether with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.quot; So there, Peter is givingthem a greeting, or a salutation from the
church AT BABYLON, and the city of Babylondid not exist at that time. So what was he talking abouté Well, just to show you oneverse, the Bible says in verse 18, of chapter 17, quot; And the woman which thou sawest is thatgreat city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.quot; And then if you back up toverse 9 of chapter 17, it says quot; And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven headsare seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.quot; Now chapter 17 was all about the great whore. And the great whore is sitting upon the scarlet coloured beast. And the beast has seven heads, and those seven heads represent seven mountains on which the woman sitteth. So in chapter17, the great whore, I believe is clearly
