What is the Meaning of the Word Temptation in Revelation 310
Let me give you a little bit more informationabout Christ's promise, quot;I will also keep thee from the hour of temptation.quot; What doesthe phrase, quot;the hour of temptationquot; meané The Greek word for temptation, peirasmos,and its related verb peirazo have two basic meanings. First, they refer to testing ortrying people to determine, demonstrate or expose the kind of people they are. For example,Jesus asked Philip a question to peirazo him, to test him, to try him—John 6:6.Arndt and Gingrich in their Greek Lexicon assert that the noun peirasmos means quot;test,trialquot; and its related verb peirazo means quot;to try, make trial of, put to the test todiscover what kind of person someone is.quot;
This definition fits the exact context ofRevelation 3:10 where the purpose of the trial, temptation, or testing is said to be quot;to trythem that dwell upon the earth.quot; As we will hear, the quot;earthdwellersquot; are not Christians;they have turned against God and hate God. God will test or try these people during theTribulation time period to expose the kind of people they are. Randall Price described the people mentioned in this verse upon which the hour of trialwill fall in our conference at Dallas: Price: We have a similar passage in the Bookof Revelation, Chapter 3 and verse 10, for there it says that believers are going tobe removed before an hour of trial or testing
is to come upon all the earth. And there wesee a very distinctive term, the term quot;those who dwell on the earth.quot; The Greek term touskatoikountas epi, quot;those who are on the earth,quot; really is quot;earthdwellers,quot; those who arecharacterized as belonging to this world system and not to those who trust the Lord. And sowe have a situation in which wrath is poured out specifically to judge unbelievers, notbelievers, and it is before that hour which is going to come upon the entire inhabitedearth, believers will be assured that they are removed from that time.

The four horsemen don't just appear untilchapter 6 of the book of Revelation. What triggers their rideé Well let's take a lookat how Christ sets the stage in the book of Revelation. Revelation starts with John recording a visionthat he had while exiled on the prison island
of Patmos. John was given a vision from theSon of Man Jesus Christ, and that he was told to record. John points out that we are blessed if weread and obey what the book of Revelation says (Revelation 1:3 NLT). John starts telling of a vision of a scenein heaven. gt; quot;After this I looked, and there before mewas a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me likea trumpet said, 'Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this'quot;(Revelation 4:1, NIV).
Darris Christ revealed to John what wouldhappen during the end times, a time when you will need God's protection and care as muchas anybody else has ever needed it in all of history. John goes on in the book to describe a scrollthat was given to the Lamb who is Jesus Christ. gt; quot;Then I saw a scroll in the right hand ofthe one who was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the outsideof the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals. I saw a strong angel, who shouted witha loud voice: 'Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and open ité' But noone in heaven or on earth or under the earth
was able to open the scroll and read it. quot;Then I began to weep bitterly because noone was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twentyfour elderssaid to me, 'Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David'sthrone, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals'quot; (Revelation5:15, NLT). Darris The scroll is given to Christ, andhas seven seals that must be broken to open the scroll seven events by these seven sealsthat will take place as it is opened. The first four seals are symbolized as fourterrifying horsemen. At the time that the
